2022 Website Hosting Migrations

3rd August 2022

Because some of our servers are reaching end-of-life (no more security patches or bug fixes are available), we are relocating many of our client’s websites/emails to new and vastly improved dedicated servers. M247 hosts our new servers in a secure and environmentally controlled Tier 3 data centre.
If you are a client of ours and we host your services on one of our legacy servers, we will contact you directly to discuss your specific migration plans. This is because scenarios vary considerably.

Migration Preparation

Since the start of the year, we have been preparing for the migration and have upgraded all our hosted and managed websites to ensure they will function correctly on PHP 7.0, at the very least.

In the spring, we sought assistance from M247 server engineers to ensure we correctly specified our new servers based on our current loads, disk usage, and processing power requirements. We also informed the engineers that future-proofing our servers as much as possible was essential for our clients and us.

High-Spec Servers

We are pleased to announce that our new enterprise-class Linux servers (currently running CloudLinux v7.9) have 40 processors at their disposal, all Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPUs (E5-2630 v4 @ 2.20GHz). Each server also has at least 32 GB of DDR3 1333 RAM and a 512 GB SSD/HDD, and can support unlimited traffic.

Improved Security

Regarding security, M247’s infrastructure hardware offers Anti-DDoS protection and complete Unified Threat Management (UTM). We also utilise ImunifyAV and the CFS software Firewall at the server level.

Improved Backups

Our new servers are now backed up daily with R1Soft. R1Soft offer incremental backups performed at the block level, shortening backup windows and reducing disk space and network I/O.

Migrations

Migrations are taking place from August to November 2022. We will be in touch with our clients on an individual basis. The migration itself is included in the annual website hosting fee cost.
